Before Christmas it is arranged that Maja (9) and Ola (2) shall visit grandmother and uncle at their farm.
Maja's mother and new boyfriend are going to Paris and they will return on Christmas Eve. Grandmother notices that Maja takes far too much responsibility for her little brother. Maja has not learned to play. She sees that her uncle is going through a tough time. Maja's approach to her uncle and a "nisse" who lives in the barn becomes the lifeline for both of them.

This is a heart-warming Christmas movie about reclaiming life. Maja's mother is an alchoholic, but it is only Maja who knows. She supports her mother and covers up the problems. Maja is co dependent, filled with guilt, self destruction and fear. Children of alchoholics often get trapped in a conflict of loyalty. Does Maja dare to tell anybody?
